Appropriately named for the surrounding terrain; surveyed and platted by cereal king C.W. Post in 1912 on the Oxsheer Ranch that he had purchased in 1906. Suggested name of Hockley City denied by Post Office because of Harris County town of same name.
City has recently become known as "City of Mosaics"
with acquisition of several large outdoor, colorful mosaics.
These may be found on chamber of commerce building, college buildings,
hospital, clinic, and freestanding mosaic in Carver Park. Free
