General
Established in 1881, community developed as marketing and distribution
center for large cattle and agricultural area. Economy stimulated
by discovery of Ranger oil pool in 1917. Continues as center for
oil and gas production, diversified agriculture and manufacturing.

Attractions
- MOBLEY HOTEL - Bought by Conrad Hilton in 1919 when
that was the only way he could get a place to sleep, hotel became
the first in Hilton chain. Restored, the hotel now serves as the
chamber of commerce office and community center. Two rooms restored
to 1919 look; another features historical museum. Open for tours
weekday business hours; Sat., Sun. 2 to 5 p.m. 4th Street and
Conrad Hilton Avenue. (Texas 6).
